Bridal Glam TEASER!

As I make my way into hosting group workshops in 2010, today I held my very last "Spend A Day With Scarlett" with Trina Lewis who came all the way from Canada! I adored the wintery cold Bridal Glam session we shot at Guana River State Park beach and just had to share a few teaser shots of our gorgeous model Summer.

Such a perfect blue sky Floridian day and juicy golden lighting! This particular beach is one of my favorite places to shoot and a special place I'll be taking the workshop attendees to during the workshop.

More to come from the rest of this session soon..... Until then, just a reminder that on Jan 1, the fee for my upcoming workshop goes up! Learn more and take advantage of this special launch rate to to save $300 at:

Tracy spent the day with me!

One of the perks I have enjoyed doing my "Spend A Day With Scarlett" is getting to meet and know such SWEET gals. Tracy Henley is one of those who makes you smile just being around her. She has a great enthusiasm for life and she can't help but keep laughing every minute she's given. We had a lot of fun during our day together and shared silly laughs together trampling bravely through the woods with our model Kam for a hot Bridal Glam session.

This has to be one of my FAVORITE Bridal Glam sessions to date. I just love how enchanting the feel of it is. And I love how awesome my simple video light totally provided the perfect fill light in the dark woods.

Here's some of my favorite pictures of Tracy and my favorites from the photoshoot below!

Special thanks too to www.yourdreamdress.com for sponsoring the dress!

Scarlett Lillian Workshop: Meet Jess McCrea!

I'm getting soooo stinkin' excited about my 1st workshop this coming February 5-7. There have been some amazing women signing up from all over, including one international sign up too! What a fun time it's going to be! Don't miss out, seats are going fast! Find out more here:

workshops.scarlettlillian.com

Today I introduce you to another attendee. She's a sweet girl I've emailed with over the years, Jess McCrea. Jess has a great heart for the Lord, and I'm so excited to finally meet her in person at the workshop. Check out her cute answers below and the words of advice she gives to other photogs! (Does she have the coolest hair or WHAT? Love it!)

1. Name:
Jess McCrea

2. Website:
www.j3designz.com

3. Blog:
www.j3designz.blogspot.com

4. Twitter:
not that cool yet :)

5. Where are you coming from?
Fort Wayne, Indiana

6. What 3 words describe your photography?
Sexy, fun, flair

7. What do you love most to photograph?
Weddings, specifically the couple shots. I love getting the sexy and vintage look in photos.

8. If you could photography anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
My grandmother-she passed away 5 years ago of cancer. At that time I wasn't a photographer yet, but I wish I had more pictures of her. She was such an important part of my life. But the person I love photoing most is my son, Jaxson. He's the cutest kid in the world and thankfully loves getting his picture taken.

9. What does fabulous mean to you?
Embracing yourself, those days where you look in the mirror and you know ya just “have it” that day. Fabulous is being authentic, and not trying to duplicate someone or something.

10. If you were on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?
My laptop (WIFI equipped), my husband and my son.

11. Who is your hero and why?
My best friend Ashley, who is also my cousin. She is the most driven and intelligent person I know. Even at 22, her convictions about life are amazing. I admire that she never lowers her standards just to have a man in her life and presents herself as a Godly woman first and foremost.

12. If they made a movie of your life, what actress would you want to play you, and what would the title of your movie be?
I'd call my movie “Risa” which is Italian for “laughter”. I've learned that whatever happens in my life good or bad, the best way to deal with it is to laugh and find the best part of the situation. I have always wanted to be in a movie, so of course I would be the best canditate to play me, but if had to be someone else, Rebecca Herbst from General Hospital. She is a fantastic young actress, and her character on GH is quite similar to me: dynamic, hopeless romantic, a mother etc;

13. What’s your favorite flavor of cupcakes?
Yellow cake with cream cheese frosting

14. When you give thanks, what is on top of your list?
My son and my husband

15. What is one valuable thing you have learned as a photographer that you can pay forward to those reading this?
Spend more time finding what makes you unique and less time trying to copy someone else's style. There's only one YOU. Have lots of backup!

Scarlett Lillian Workshop: Meet Leeann Marie!

Ahhh, I'm getting soooo excited about my 1st workshop coming up in February!

The workshop kicked off to a great start last week on my dad's birthday and is filling up quickly with beautiful women coming from all over the US and beyond. I even received the 1st international sign up on Christmas Eve! How exciting that someone is coming from another country!

Now with 2010 on the horizon, I just wanted to send a remind you that my workshop special launch price of $1200 will be going up to the full price of $1500 on January 1. With only a few seats left, don't miss the chance to reserve your spot now and save $300!

www.workshops.scarlettlillian.com

Each week leading up to the workshop, I will be introducing you to new attendees on my blog! Be sure to leave them some love in the comment box! The first fabulous photog featured today is the stylish Leeann Marie coming from Pittsburgh, PA. (All together now, "Welcome Leeann!")

1. Name:
Leeann Marie Golish (or… Leeann Marie to go with the business name.., but I go by Lee with friends)

2. Website:
http://www.LeeannMariePhotography.com

3. Blog:
~same~

4. Twitter:
LeeannMarieG

5. Where are you coming from?
Pittsburgh, PA (home of Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins)

6. What 3 words describe your photography?
Fun, Stylish, Romantic

7. What do you love most to photograph?
Engagements and Boudoir are my favorites, because I get a lot of personal time with everyone. Weddings are great because I get to fall in love with love all over again.

I love girls who aren’t afraid to be a little daring and really show their personalities in front of the camera. When she says “can’t believe that’s me!” I get excited!

I also love to photograph my niece, simply because I’m in love with that little girl.

8. If you could photography anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Lady Gaga. I am totally obsessed with her, and the creativity she brings to everything is inspiring!

9. What does fabulous mean to you?
Fabulous means being a little daring but feeling wonderful about what you do. It’s color and fun. It’s when you walk out of your house and just want to meet new people because every experience is fresh and gives you a little extra something. It’s buying that dress “just because you must have it”. It’s an exclamation point!

10. If you were on a deserted island, what three things would you want with you?
My husband, mascara, and mimosas (because mimosas + beach = my kind of deserted island)

11. Who is your hero and why?
My Grandmother. She was an amazing woman. She knew what she liked and what she didn’t. She wasn’t afraid to speak up, but she loved with all of her heart. She was incredibly giving, and only wanted the best for you. She raised 6 kids on her own, and although she wasn’t always at the top of everyone’s “favorite person” list, she was true to herself. She’s at the top of my “favorite person” list.

12. If they made a movie of your life, what actress would you want to play you, and what would the title of your movie be?
This question is always way too hard!! Actress to play me? Anne Hathaway. I love that she’s a girl with class and a timeless style, but she’s also fun and true to herself. I would maybe title my movie “Smirks and Quirks” because I can be really blunt at times, but also really like to have fun! (although I think that sounds really silly)

13. What’s your favorite flavor of cupcakes?
Carrot Cake

14. When you give thanks, what is on top of your list?
My parents.

15. What is one valuable thing you have learned as a photographer that you can pay forward to those reading this?
Don’t be afraid to take some chances – photographically or financially. Put yourself out there. Be yourself, and you will be happy. Go out and meet other photographers and vendors. When you get EE on your camera – your lens aperture ring moved. Don’t freak.

Merry Christmas 2009!

I hope you aren't on your computer or iPhone reading this on Christmas day, and instead spending time with your family... but if you are, I just wanted to say a BIG Merry Christmas! I pray that God blesses your day as we all celebrate the birth of our savior jesus Christ. He is the true reason for the season.

I wanted to share with you this special Christmas card I made this year for my mom and I that we sent out. (Granted, these pics were taken with my iPhone, so please excuse the bad lighting!) We wanted to do something to honor my dad's memory. This time last year, as we spent our last Christmas with him, my mom, in her super-obsessed-having-to-match-everything-in-her-wardrobe way, bought us all matching Christmas pajamas and slippers to wear. But I didn't care that it broke all fashion rules, I was just glad to have my dad here one more year to hug and take a picture with. It was then two short months later he went to spend his remaining Christmases with Jesus.

For those who have also lost someone, we got sent this special poem that I wanted to share with you. I hope it helps comfort the one you are missing today:

Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless CHRISTMAS TREES around the world below
with tiny lights like HEAVEN’S STARS reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so SPECTACULAR please wipe away that tear
for I am spending CHRISTMAS WITH JESUS CHRIST this year.

I hear the many CHRISTMAS SONGS that people hold so dear
but the SOUND OF MUSIC can't compare with the CHRISTMAS CHOIR up here.

I have no words to tell you of the JOY their voices bring
for it is beyond description to HEAR THE ANGELS SING.

I know HOW MUCH YOU MISS ME, I see the pain inside your heart
for I am spending CHRISTMAS WITH JESUS CHRIST this year.

I can't tell you of the SPLENDOR or the PEACE here in this place
Can you just imagine CHRISTMAS WITH OUR SAVIOR face to face

I'll ask him to LIFT YOUR SPIRIT as I tell him of your love
so then PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER as you lift your eyes above.

Please let your HEARTS BE JOYFUL and let your SPIRIT SING
for I am spending CHRISTMAS IN HEAVEN and I’m walking WITH THE KING.

Lastly, I get the honor of sharing my birthday with Jesus, and today I turned the big 2-9! Eek, one year away from 30! I just wanted to say a special THANK YOU to all who have been texting, facebooking, Twittering, & emailing your beautiful birthday wishes! I pray you all have a blessed CHRISTmas!

:-)

Introducing Scarlett Lillian photography workshops! Reserve your spot now!

Today, I can see my dad's face clearly as if it was just yesterday.

He is sitting across the kitchen counter from me as I share with him my fears about ideas for my photography business. I can see him looking me straight in the eye and I can hear him clearly saying:

"Go for it! What do you have to lose? If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.. BUT, what if it DOES work? This is exactly the time in your life to take a risk... and you never know, you just might succeed."

A year and a half ago we had that kitchen counter talk shortly after he had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer a few months before, and here I was with my silly fears of failure about some brainstorms for my photography business and different ways I wanted to grow it. I knew my fears were nothing compared to the fears he must have been going through knowing the number of his days were coming close to an end. But yet, in the midst of his own sickness, as weak as he had been physically, he stood there strong as my #1 cheerleader telling me to look fear in the face, laugh at it, and keep moving forward.

Today would have been my dad's 63th birthday. An entrepreneur himself, my dad was always my greatest business mentor, guiding me on how to set up a business, reminding me to always pay my taxes, encouraging me to take risks and showing me how to turn my dreams into a reality. I wouldn't be where I am today if he hadn't been there always believing in me and my photography business.

I want to do that for YOU.

What's holding YOU back from succeeding?

Today on my dad's birthday, I'm hanging up my one-on-one workshops, and I'm excited to announce my very FIRST group workshop! A lot of you have been requesting this, and it has been 3 years in the making as I've learned what has worked and not worked in running a photography business, attended other awesome workshops, and held private one-on-one workshops. But now it's time to open up the seat to 20 fabulous women to come together at the beach here in Jacksonville, FL and bond over our love of photography to help kick start a fabulous new 2010 for your business!

While I was planning behind the scenes last week, I got this heartfelt out-of-the-blue email from Katie DeWinter, a past "spend a day" girl, who shared:

"Scarlett,

I can't begin to tell you the difference between this past year and the year before my spend a day with you. You helped give me the tools I need to make my business grow during the worst economy of our lifetime. The average number of sessions I've booked on a monthly basis more than tripled after I had my day with you. I know my photography and shooting improved, but more than that I know I started taking advantage of opportunities to promote my work. I really admire your entrepreneurship. I know your influence is the main reason my business has been so successful over the past year. I’m looking forward to growing even more in 2010. Thanks for being a constant reminder and example of what it means to be a Christian, a strong business woman and an artist.

Lots of love,
Katie DeWinter"

Heather & John /// Dallas, TX Family Session

You might remember my good photographer friend, Heather Thorne, as my co-star in last year's fun video we made.

This year, she and her hubby John celebrated their 5-year anniversary, and she wanted a photoshoot of their love, and their love for their puppies, Lucy & Lola. They are one big happy family in Dallas, TX and laugh so much together. It filled my heart with joy to be upstairs in their home getting ready and hearing how much Heather and John laughed together downstairs.

Heather has been an amazing prayer partner in my life and a woman who lives out her faith so beautifully. She's one of those girls that you meet and you know your life is better because you met her. She's one of the most giving souls I've met and truly reflects the goodness of God's heart.

Being that she is a photographer too, she brought along her old vintage cameras that used to belong to her grandmother. (In fact, that's how Heather and I became email buddies, after she won a contest on my blog telling the story of her grandmother's camera!) It inspired a whole vintage feel to the shoot, so I also tried out a totally different way of editing the photos for a more fashion editorial feel. I have to confess, this just might be my favorite photoshoot yet! When I saw a farm with cotton fields blooming, I was sold and insisted that's where we shoot!

It was a cold cold winter day in Dallas, almost 30 degrees, but it was worth the oh so cute blanket shots at the end with Heather wrapped up in John's love!

Here's a slideshow of all their images!
