Dear Blog,
My dearest Blog,
How faithful you are, always waiting for me to write in you, but oh how I've been neglecting you these days. I didn't mean to let half a month go by without paying attention to you. I know you deserve more from me. But someone special has had my attention for a little bit. For what seems like the first time in over a year, I was able to take a vacation that had nothing to do with work, so I've been taking a break from you and the internet and enjoying my time off being head over heels. I promise it's not you, it's me. I'm way behind on updating you oh wonderful Blog, so please be patient. Lots of new entries to come this week with so many entries I can't wait to write about in you. God is so good and His love is a beautiful thing.
xoxo, Scarlett Lillian
COMING SOON:
Danielle & Jay's Wedding Spend A Day With Ayla My trip to Cali My Vegas promo video Pictage Podcast interview Lots more!
I just shot Lynsi's wedding in January, but she's also a model too and I couldn't wait to do a fashion shoot with her after the wedding! She celebrated her birthday by flaunting for her own glam session in her favorite outfits. Her BFF Bethany and her mom also came and jumped in a few shots also! Such a FUN girl's day!
The girly girl I am, I also had sooooo much fun also doing their hair and make up. I'm thinking I might need to get into that as well. All those years of dressing up my Barbie dolls are paying off!
Whether you are a high school senior, a bride, or a girl who just wants hot photos of her self, I'm excited to now offer these these new fashionista glam sessions! If you are interested in scheduling your own photoshoot or making a day out of it with your BFF, shoot me an email at scarlett@scarlettlillian.com for more info and availability and we'll set up your fashion play date!
First Lynsi!
Then Bethany's turn!
And no, that's not Lynsi's sister, it's her hot momma!
Attention northeast Florida photogs!!! The March Jacksonville Pictage User Group meeting will be next Thursday, March 26. I will be out of town and unable to attend, but the fabulous Kate Gardiner is opening up her home in St. Augustine to host the night! Lots of new announcements about new things Pictage is coming out with. Though this is hosted by Pictage, non-members are also welcome! It's a great way to network with other photographers in the area.
If you would like to attend, shoot me an email at scarlett@scarlettlillian.com and I'll add you to the Evite list with all the info and directions!
So this post is a little belated. Story of my life. But what fun it was to finally look at and organize all the party pics from my Las Vegas trip last month!
What a whirlwind WPPI can be! With around 12,000 photographers from all over the world located in one hotel, you know lots of crazy photos will be taken! My favorite part of attending WPPI each year is getting a chance to see old friends and meet new ones! Thanks to all my blog readers who stopped me at the tradeshow to say hello or stopped by my After Party, I adored meeting all of you!!
There were way too many photos to blog about, so instead, I've grouped all the behind the scenes photos together in one slideshow!
Thanks to the fabulous David Esquire who played paparazzi at my After Party! Also thanks to my friends Jackie Blair, Heather Thorne who provided our funny girly pictures in the hotel room and my oh so hot boyfriend Mark Sweeney who provided some more of the behind the scenes photos at my nightshoot! (Have I mentioned yet how awesome it is to be dating another photographer? And I have Vegas to thank for the beginning of all my smiles! he he)
Every year at WPPI is so exciting because it's like the Oscars of the photography industry. There's award nights, parties, lectures, networking, and I always like to get some shooting in while I'm there. Last year, I was excited to get my Vegas night shoot featured on the Pocket Wizard blog, but this year, I thought it would be fun to open it up to others to tag along for another hot nightshoot as I showed them my lighting techniques! It was soooooooo much fun shooting with other photographers that joined me from all over the world like Australia, Japan, and Canada!
Also, Pocket Wizard just released the new FlexTT5 and mini TT1, and I was thrilled to get an exclusive sneak peek and try it out for the shoot while they filmed a promo video of the photoshoot for their website!
Here's my favorite images of the night. Our superstar bride and groom was my new fabulous friend Lyndsay, who everyone will remember as the winner of my Spend A Day With Scarlett contest last year!! She is also a photographer and was attending WPPI, and I couldn't think of a more stylish couple to rock it out for us!
Be sure to check out too some of the great images a few of the other photographers posted on their blogs already, and behind the scenes pics from those who were helping to assist!
After the photoshoot that night, I wanted to relax and have a chance to hang with some of the great friends I've made in this industry, so I hosted a photoshoot After Party! What a blast that was reconnecting with friends and meeting new ones! Tons of images to come from that, stay tuned!!!!!
I have a TON of Spend A Day With Scarlett workshops coming up where I am teaching other photographers and I need a ton of models in exchange for free photos! Right now, I'm looking for a hot couple to dress up in their dress and tux/suit for Tuesday March 24, so if you are available that afternoon around 3pm, shoot me an email with a picture of the two of you at scarlett@scarlettlillian.com for consideration. I can't answer every email that comes in, but I will write you back if I'm interested further, and I just might be able to use you for another upcoming date too! Thanks for your submission!!
I've been doing my best to allow myself to take off time away from the virtual reality that has become my life as a photographer, and instead fill that space with the room to enjoy and cope with my real reality the past two weeks. With the passing of my dad, suddenly the last thing I wanted to do was spend time on Twitter, Facebook, blog or email that usually fills my days. It wasn't a complete detox b/c yes I had my iPhone with me part of the time, but otherwise, I just simply wanted to spend time with my close family and friends... and enjoy a beautiful new relationship that has brought me so many smiles in the midst of a sad time.
Because of this temporary withdrawal from technology, I have so much to blog about and catch up on. But not only did I detox from virtual reality, I detoxed from being a photographer. Below you will see, my friends Darice Michelle and Lyndsay Hyatt-Almeida captured so beautifully the most important day of my life. The day we celebrated the end of my dad's life. And what a celebration it was!
One thing about my family, we never do things like anyone else. And my dad's funeral was not going to be an exception. My mom didn't want it to be a sad funeral. My dad believed in living to the fullest, and she wanted his funeral to be a true celebration. She called it a "Wang Dang Doodle" funeral. In honor of his love, and I mean LOVE, for preserving Southern Heritage and all things related to the Civil War (hence how I got my name, Scarlett, after the book and movie Gone With the Wind), my mom brought in Confederate re-enactors to send my dad off in a truly beautiful procession following a horse-drawn carriage, and Southern Belles singing "Dixie" as he was placed in his new home. Afterward, we celebrated with a big party full of lots of my dad's favorite Southern dishes like oysters, macaroni and cheese, black-eyed peas, BBQ pork, fried chicken, collard greens, cheese grits, sweet tea, etc. My dad believed in goooooood eating, and sharing good food with others!
The Florida Times-Union even came out to do a story for the newspaper, and you can view the reporters blog entry and published stories here, here, and here.
Here are some of the great shots everyone got that I borrowed from their blogs!
My mom displayed all my dad's favorite things around the lobby including all his Civil War momentos, golf achievements, FSU Seminole trinkets, and the hundreds of cards he received from all of YOU!
The confederate soliders.
My dad's coffin adorned in a Rebel flag and the canvas photos I had given him and my mom for their living room two Christmases ago.
Mom with the lovely newspaper reporter Tracy Collins.
A picture Mark grabbed of my mom and I afterward in front of my dad's mosemleum and the garden area my mom planted around it for my dad.
And saving the best for last..... yes, now it's out in the open about my new mystery man, Mark. If you are a Facebook friend, then you probably saw the "relationship status" change discreetly over the weekend, so I figured it's time I officially blog some pictures with Mark. He came all the way out from California, where he lives, to be my shoulder to cry on, but he really brought so many more smiles and laughs that I needed the most in this time. I love these few that Darice grabbed of him and I at my dad's celebration. Doesn't HE have the best smile in the world?? he he he
And a cute one from Lyndsay. I love how the party is swirling around us, and we are just caught up in our own little world. One day I'll spill all the cute stories on the blog of how our story has unfolded, but for now, we are enjoying being caught up in own little world. :-) There's more pics of us on Mark's blog if you want to snoop! he he
Lastly, here is the video slideshow I showed at my dad's funeral service full of years of photos and video footage of him and our family. It's funny how I think I've cried all my tears I can, but everytime I watch this, they still come pouring out. So you might want to grab some kleenex before watching. Enjoy!
More blog entries on the way..... a very belated WPPI recap with Lyndsay & Anderson's hot night shoot, my After Party, another glam fashion session.... other fun photos... whew, I'm behind. But I need to catch up with clients first. Back to email and editing! If you have emailed and not received a recent response, I'll be doing my best to tackle my inbox this week! Thanks for your patience!
