The famous kiss.
Ahhhh.
That kiss.
It's gone down in history.
The sailor and the nurse in Times Square.
For years, I've seen it over and over and thought "I wonder where those two people are now? Did they get married after that kiss and live happily ever after? Did they never speak again? Are they still alive?"
To my surprise, turns out, my aunt knows the sailor who kissed the nurse. He is in fact still alive and one of her patients. I had no idea about this until she surprised me with an autographed picture by the famous sailor, Carl Muscarello, himself. She told me that she wanted to give me an autographed picture because she thought I would appreciate it as a photographer myself. I was super thrilled and excited to learn I was so closely related to this iconic legend!
In Googling a link to share with you similar to the photocopy newspaper story she gave me along with the picture, I was sad to discover that just this week the nurse, Edith Shain passed away at the age of 91. In this article, it claims the identity of the sailor is still a mystery, but Carl claims it is and can prove it from the birthmark on his right arm that is in the photo!
Is it him, is it not? I'll let you be the judge.

So did they end up together?
Scarlett,
I'm so jealous! I too wonder if indeed its him, but how cool no matter what! I have always loved that photo, my husband being a marine and me being in the navy when we met, i guess just tied me into it, i love it, how cool!
