When iPods crash.
As soon as I ended my work out, my iPod crashed before I could upload the stats to my online Nike account.
“iTunes has noted you have a corrupt iPod and can not sync accordingly.”
What do you mean a corrupt iPod? It was working just fine the past 8 miles!!
Somehow it makes it feel like those 8 miles don’t even count.
I know they do.
But without it being recorded, it’s as if I never ran it. I really wanted it to count too because my knee has been bothering me a lot lately and I’ve had to cut back on running, so to accomplish 8 miles today was a HUGE accomplishment for me. And now, it’s just gone. Arg.
Isn’t that so much like life sometimes. Like the whole “If you make a noise in the forest and no one hears it, did it make a sound?” Or, if we experience something incredible and no one is there to witness it, did it even happen?
On my route for running, sometimes I like to go an abandoned stretch of land to get away from the cars passing by and gross old men honking at me in my sports bra. I have to go down some rugged trails and climb over piles of mud just to get this hidden barren land. One one side of it, there is slight mountain, well, more like mountain of dirt that grass has grown around, and that is the closest I get to an opportunity to hike in the flat lands of Florida. It is so exhilarating to get to the top each time and look out over the beautiful lake the mountain rests next to. No one can see me, but on top of the mountain, I feel slightly closer to God and how He must feel looking down from the Heavens.
Ironically enough, when I was climbing to the top this morning, a worship song shuffled on my iPod with the words:
“In this world I walk alone with no place to call my home
But there’s one Who holds my hand
The rugged road through barren lands
The way is dark
The road is steep
But He’s become my eyes to see
The strength to climb
My grieves to bear
The Savior lives inside me there
In Your Love, I find release
A haven from my unbelief
Take my life and let me be
A living prayer my God to thee.”
Allison Krauss sings it so beautifully with her voice of an angel. Here’s a YouTube video of her performing it below. My mom originally sent me the video a while ago, and it was one of those songs I downloaded and really only listened to briefly. Then today, it took on new meaning and touched my heart that much more in the midst of actually climbing the mountain and hearing the words at the same time.
Perhaps that’s why I’m blogging (eh, whining) about my run now, to make it feel like those 8 miles counted. But all in all, it was a good reminder that whether anyone witnesses our accomplishments, at least we can rest in comfort knowing God witnesses it all and He’s the ultimate leader in the race of life we each run.
Now it’s back to the Genius Bar to see if they can fix my dang iPod. (As if I don’t have enough on my plate as is!)

Yeah for you & your 8 mile run!!! I am a runner too & I commend you :) Its been ages since I have been able to run 8 miles, babies & -10 Wisconsin weather doesn't help. I am lucky to get 3 miles in before my fingers freeze off! Maybe I should hop on a plane and come join you for a nice sunny Florida run.
Yay, you ran 8 miles! Officially we are the "8-mile partners"! We should run 8 miles together soon!
I am so feeling for you about the ipod breaking down! That is just wrong!!! Don't lose sight of the REAL benefit to that long run...
SATISFACTION and PERSONAL GROWTH
So what if Nike doesn't "know" you ran it and so what if all the runners competing don't see it either, your BODY knows you ran it and the results of that will far surpass that of any racing competition!
Keep stretching!
My knees have been bothering me too, it's from not doing yoga! I've been taking breaks too. Yesterday I went for a 3 mile walk instead. It was nice to slow it down for a change and ponder on all of life's difficulties.
Love you hon!
Oh girl - that stinks! But that is awesome that you ran 8 miles today! Way to go! One time I was running and my battery died on my ipod. I felt the same way so I feel your pain.
Yay for running 8 miles!
Boo for stinky ipod eating the 8 miles.
There are some hills on the Theodore Roosevelt Trail. One that everyone complains about... maybe you should go check it out sometime. Before the mosquitos come out...
I'm so jealous you ran 8 miles! Bravo. Please slap me, Scarlett and make me go to the gym. I haven't worked out since before you took those pictures of me last year. =)
OH I'm with Amy! I even have a membership I pay for but don't go... it's like a slap in the face every month, yet still no motivation. WOW that's horrible.
Scar, trust me noting it down here and getting the supportive comments are much more than Nike gives you..
That song is amazing, I had never heard it before, but then again I'm way behind on the new worship music I'm stuck in 2000 when it comes to my CD's and what I listen to... LOL
8 miles is awesome, especially with you knee/hip. I'm so sorry to hear about the Ipod. I was there when you bought it too!!!! Keep your head up, we're going out soon...
Rachie
Heidi- LOL, yeah it's much easier to run in Florida! Yesterday was just cool enough that I wasn't sweating buckets as I ran, yet warm enough to still be in my sports bra and enjoy the beautiful sunshine an blue skies!
Darice- Yeah, I totally want to run together sometime. However, today I can barely move, my hip is bursting in pain. I finally broke down to see a chiropractor on Monday who another runner friend visited with a similar pain and they fixed him, so I'm hoping he can adjust me properly as well. Until I can get this issue worked out, I'm laying off the running again. Boo!
Jill- Nice to know you understand my pain!
Tracy- Oh cool, where is that out? I'd love to check it out!
Amy- Ha! Not that you need it you skinny minny!
Jess- Ha, I had the same problem of wasting so much money not going to the gym. That's why I finally quit. And ironically enough, I found that I work out MORE now that I don't feel the pressure to work out. It's helps too to run outside, vs. inside I would get so bored on the treadmill.
Rachel- I know, dang iPod. You would think it would last a good year before it crashed. But no.
This makes me think of that episode of SATC when Carrie's computer crashes. She had her whole life and article on that computer! Don't forget to back yours up with the thumb drive, that's what we call it around here. Good luck!
Rachel
Ha ha, I know, right? Becky and I always joke how no matter what we are dealing with in life, there is ALWAYS a SATC analogy we can apply it to!
