In between the lines...

Since I've gotten back from the D.R., I've been eating a lot of Ben & Jerry's and watching a lot of Sex and The City reruns. For my girls out there, I think you know what that really means. LOL. But it's all good.

In last night's episode, Carrie Bradshaw wrote a quote in her column I really liked and I am taking it on as my new motto for 2008.

“When you are young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone, or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don’t leap at all because there’s not always someone there to catch you. In life, there is no safety net.
When did it stop being fun and start being scary?

I decided it was time to leave fear behind and have some fun.”

Amen! Here's to a year of fun and not being too scared to leap! For ALL of us!

What fears will you walk through this year? Leave a comment and let me know. The first step is telling someone else. :-)

ah, i totally get what you are saying. ...though it's only the beginning of the year i already feel that it is all going to be about taking chances....or in some ways a flying leap! haha. :) from school to relationships/meeting new people...and of course the biggest one for me, work. i find myself, though just 17 days into the new year (which it already seems like it's been forever since january 1st), more and more i am finding myself saying "i just don't know what to do," or, "i can't handle this situation as it is anymore." i have a distinct feeling that this is going to be a fabulous year...but only with God's help and guidance. for that reason in itself, i find myself saying "keep the coins, i just want change." :O)

I love this quote, thanks for posting it! I am quite like the person who commented before me, I feel like its been forever since the new year started and things have not been going too well. However, one of my goals is to jump into wedding photography (I'll be 2nd shooting 3 times starting around May) and wanting to do photography full time..I'm also looking to buy a house!

It's funny that the beginning of the new year is always filled with such uncertainty! I'm contemplating a career change, starting a blog, getting married later in the year, taking some photography classes, and soon I'll be starting an internship with a wedding photographer in my area. I guess you could say it will be a full year for me, but I have a good feeling about it all. Pursuing a hobby/love is scary when it's not what you went to school for (I have an MS and BS in geology)!

Aw, Scarlett. :( The B&J and the SATC part sounds great, but what caused it doesn't sound so wonderful. I'm sorry!

That's a great quote too.

Red-I believe it's going to be a fabulous year for you too!

Megan- Yeah isn't it crazy how much can change in just half a month? So awesome that you are jumping in photography! Your house might be coming sooner than you hoped!

Erin- You do have a full year ahead of you! Don't worry about pursuing something you didn't major in. I had that same fear too once upon a time but I learned, no one really cares. Trust me.

Jamie- Thanks girl! Thankfully, life goes on, and B&J and SATC make it that much easier! ;-)

Rachel Brooke- LOL, not quite that kind of visit. D.R. was for Dominican Republic, not Dr. Thank goodness, I've enough of those visits lately to last me until next year.

Scarlett. I am sorry. You're beautiful, talented, and you love the Lord. The possibilities are endless for you. Keep that lovely chin up!

My, my, my...this quote hits far to close to home. I'm not quite as fearless the older I get. Thanks for the inspiration Scarlett!

My biggest fear is to let my husband know I spend almost $10,000 on his credit card. I am starting with photography to see if I will be able to pay it before he finds out, however, I think I had been spending more on the website, albums, camara.... Anyway good luck to everyone.

Tink- Ouch! Good luck on that one. Trying giving something away. You will be surprised how God blesses us even more when we first give.

I get the reference of the Sex in the City reruns and if you need a girls night out text me or call me!!!

I feel like I'm conquering many fears this year and thus far dealing with them pretty well. My main goal is to work on my walk, and my prayer time. I did a lot of things wrong last year and drifted away from the things and the people that blessed me at the start of all this and I'm getting back to basics as they say.

What fear am I going to walk through? Hopefully, being open to love again! After several years of ups and downs with my own "Mr. Big" (ironically, from Nashville), I'm hoping to....well, to move forward and to find love, or at least to be willing to look for it again! I just saw a SATC episode where Carrie was talking about "tense love," and she pondered, "Can you get to a future if your past is present?" So that is my fear--being able to let go of the past so I can enjoy the present and look to the future with hope and excitement. Whew!

Jess- We'll chat soon. I did see 27 Dresses already. So cute!

Amy- Amen to all you wrote! I used to have a Mr. Big in my life too, and though it takes time, you will eventually be able to release him from your heart too. The key is forgiveness, day in and day out. And I definitely encourage you Amy to reach that place of healing before you get involved in a new love. Other wise, it's truly not fair to the other person. I was on the other end of this recently and there is no greater pain than only receiving the left over pieces of someone's heart, instead of the restored full heart. I had to learn that the hard way. So to answer Carrie's question, NO, you can't get to the future if the past is present. But all in due time Amy, YES you will be open to love again. Just don't rush the healing process.
